The Phenomenon of Homosexuality in the Arab World: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions
Dr. Noha Katerji in her article “The Phenomenon of Homosexuality in the Arab World: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions” (ظاهرة الشذوذ في العالم العربي (الأسباب والنتائج وآليات الحل)) highlights the growing concern of homosexuality becoming more open and accepted in some Arab countries.
She concludes her article by stressing that Muslims and non-Muslims must strive together to fight this. Some of her suggested solutions (not all jointly done with non-Muslims, of course) are:
1) Do not cede linguistic territory. In other words, do not use euphemisms (e.g., “same-sex love,” etc.) to undermine the ugliness of homosexuality.
2) Push for legislation that criminalizes open displays of homosexual behavior or which restricts its open display in any way (such as having open gay parades)
3) Strongly resist any government tampering with school curriculum that seeks to brainwash children into accepting homosexuality as morally permissible.
4) Strive to find ways and promote treatment for people with homosexual desires.
5) Strictly applying the Sunnah when it comes to raising children, etc.
6) Striving to find social and economical solutions to help encourage marriage at a young age and remove unnecessary hurdles and obstacles.
7) Strict media monitoring and ensure that complaints are raised against television shows and channels which promote sexual deviation, etc.
