Many Salafis deduce from the following ayah that Prophet Musa (‘alayhi assalam) used to preach that Allah is above the heavens:
{And Fir‘awn (Pharaoh) said: "O Hâmân! Build me a tower that I may arrive at the ways; The ways of the heavens, and I may look upon the God of Mûsâ: But verily, I think him to be a liar."} [40:36-37]
Those who disagree with Salafis contend that far from proving that this is the belief of Prophet Musa, this rather demonstrates that this was the belief of Pharoah.
I enjoyed reading this article (original Arabic here) by sister Um Abdullah where she cites multiple classical scholars who made the same deduction as Salafis. Thus, any allegation against Salafis charging them with erroneous inference would need to be equally extended to those scholars as well.
